About Our Bands

Addington Brass

Addington Brass is a B grade brass band based in Christchurch, New Zealand.

A diverse group, ranging in age from 14 to 70 the band currently rehearses on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Our band room was opened in March 2003 and is a new-look rehearsal hall with three adjoining practice/teaching rooms and an upper level built to house one of New Zealand’s most extensive music libraries

The band has a busy schedule through the year and perform at wide range of community events, including:

  • Summertime Riverside Concerts

  • ANZAC Day Services at the Papanui RSA

  • RNZAF Wigram Retreat Ceremony

  • Community Christmas Carols at Riccarton Bush

We also have a robust concert schedule through the year, and we regularly compete at both provincial contests as part of the CPBBA, and at the annual BBANZ National Contest in the B Grade.

Addington TRAINing Band

The TRAINing Band was formed in 2021 to bring a youth band back to the Addington family.

Composed of both beginning brass players of all ages, supported by some players from Addington Brass, the TRAINing band is a welcoming environment for learning musicians to develop their ensemble skills.

Rehearsals are every Monday during the school term, from 6:30 pm before the Addington Brass rehearsal.

The TRAINing band competed in their first contest in 2022, in the youth grade of the CPBBA Provincial Contest.
